On March 25, 2025, the Chairwoman of WeLead - Madam Nguyen Thi Tuyet Minh participated in and delivered remarks at the Intergenerational Forum on "Women and Gender Equality in the Digital Age."
During the first session, themed “The Role of Women in Promoting Gender Equality Across Eras,” the Chairwoman emphasized the critical role of women in advancing gender equality. She highlighted Vietnam's achievements in implementing the Beijing Platform for Action and the National Action Program for the Advancement of Women, particularly in the economic sector. These achievements include increased female participation in the workforce, leadership positions at major enterprises, and the growing number of women-owned businesses.
Vietnamese women are now active across a wide array of industries, no longer limited to traditional fields. Their presence is increasingly associated with prominent brands in sectors such as aviation, refrigeration, banking, real estate, design, graphic arts, information technology, and film directing. Female entrepreneurs play an important role in job creation, contribute significantly to national GDP, and lead the way in promoting sustainable business practices.
Nevertheless, female entrepreneurs continue to face persistent challenges related to unequal opportunities, particularly in entrepreneurship, access to finance and resources, networking, and career advancement. They are also increasingly vulnerable to online harassment and violence, including disinformation, cheapfakes, and deepfakes. Furthermore, mental health has become an emerging concern for women in the digital age.
To achieve substantive gender equality, the collective efforts of the entire political system and the wider community are essential. The Chairwoman also proposed promoting gender equality within Vietnam’s family lineages, emphasizing that the family is the fundamental unit of society. When each unit embraces equality, the whole of society moves closer to genuine equality. Achieving gender equality requires the active participation of both women and men.
